Katrina C Diagnosed at age 27
"Throughout the journey, I had gotten an amazing support system from my amazing husband, both sides of family, amazing friends, work family, and of course the Lord himself."
My journey began on September 15, 2020. I got diagnosed Stage 2B Breast Cancer with ER/PR Positive, BRCA 2 Positive, and HER Negative. I had done a port placement surgery followed by 16 rounds of chemotherapy. During the journey, I had gone through acute pancreatitis and Type 2 diabetes.
After chemotherapy, I got scheduled to do a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction followed by a full hysterectomy. I underwent 25 rounds of radiation and took a slight break for the holidays the year of 2021. As the year 2022 began, I got scheduled to do my DIEP FLAP Reconstruction surgery February 2022. It had been a very tough recovery at this time because I ended up getting an infection about 2 weeks post op, followed by severe nausea from an antibiotic I had just taken. Luckily, with stopping the antibiotic it had helped me become better. I am currently undergoing Hormone Therapy for five years, infusion treatments and targeted therapy for six months to help prevent reoccurrence and with my genetic mutation.
As of two weeks ago 7/14/2022, I underwent the Phase 3 of revision reconstruction breast surgery. My plastic surgeon's team and I have decided to do liposuction, breast reduction/abduction with abdominoplasty or something to do with my abdomen. So far, everything is healing in order. I am currently recovering just fine and bruised/swollen during this recovery period.
Needless to say, I am currently writing my book about the journey, and it's supposed to be released 2023 sometime. I have learned so much from my Breast Cancer Journey, I am a strong, fearless, positive person and to this day no matter what life throws at me I tend to fight what I am made for. I never take my life granted, because I learned you never know what tomorrow could bring for you.
Throughout the journey, I had gotten an amazing support system from my amazing husband, both sides of family, amazing friends, work family, and of course the Lord himself. I couldn't have done it with an amazing oncology team plus all of my doctors, wonderful physical therapist and everyone who is still there on my journey to this day.
I am very grateful, thankful, and blessed.
This is my story.
